Here is the original character model sketches for the Radicals from way back in 2000! Note how much younger they look and the fact that Patrick is a blond! The person Patrick is based on is, in fact, a blond, but I eventually decided that the all-blond male make up of the original group was too statistically unlikely to be believable.
Here is the original sketch for the modern version of Karen. In “B-factor”, the old notebook paper comic strip I did in middle and high school, Karen started as sort of a young audience surrogate and was quickly thrust into a sort of young “mother figure” during a major shift in main cast. I thought it would be fun to re-boot her into a tomboy-ish figure who’s younger than even the other main cast and give her a chance to both shine in her youth and to grow into a leadership role more believably.
